A novel gas-based RPM technology for water control and hydrocarbon mobility enhancement based on a gas-based RPM.
Water production is a common issue of almost every reservoir. Its impact usually depends on the reservoir’s predominant natural production mechanism and petrophysical properties, the size and type of the water source, and the well’s lifting mechanism, among others. Problems associated to water encroachment include but are not limited to Ko and Kg reduction by Sw increase inside the reservoir, poor lifting due to increased hydrostatics in production tubing, and water management over costs.
Several techniques have been proposed for water control; chemical or mechanical approaches are used depending on the working environment and problem severity. Among chemical systems, RPMs are of special interest because when compared to other solutions, they do not represent a serious compromise to hydrocarbon production after treatment injection. However, depending on the chemical type, changes on pH, salinity and production drawdown induced after treatment, the efficiency and durability of conventional RPM´s can be affected.
To overcome these limitations and to take advantage of the benefits of injecting chemical-in-gas dispersions, we have developed GaStim®PM.
